Unlock Your Full Swing: 5 Drills for More Power and Accuracy – Members

Whether you’re launching drives off the tee at County Longford or hitting your approach shots into the green, a reliable full swing is key. These drills will help develop your fundamentals, improve consistency, and increase confidence.

1. Tee Behind Ball Drill

Purpose: Prevent early extension and promote solid contact.
How: Place a second tee 6 inches behind the ball. Focus on brushing the turf past the back tee. If you hit the back tee, you’re likely coming in too steep or early extending.

2. Slow-Motion Swings

Purpose: Build muscle memory and body awareness.
How: Take 10 swings at 50% speed, exaggerating proper positions. Focus on balance and tempo. Great for warming up or fixing swing faults.

3. Alignment Stick Drill

Purpose: Train consistent aim and swing path.
How: Lay an alignment stick parallel to your target line. Place a second stick just outside your toe line. This helps check alignment and prevents swinging too far inside or outside.

4. Pause at the Top

Purpose: Improve transition and rhythm.
How: Pause for one second at the top of your backswing before starting down. This promotes better sequencing and prevents rushing the downswing.

5. Impact Bag Drill

Purpose: Train proper impact position.
How: Use an old duffel bag or impact bag. Practice striking it with a forward shaft lean, weight shifted slightly forward, and square clubface. Repeat to engrain the feel of solid contact.

Closing Tip:
A strong full swing is built on repetition and balance. Add these drills into your range sessions and feel the difference in your next round.
